Enable and control conversation starters

Learn how optional conversation starters differ from daily notes, choose an interval, pause them, and understand quiet-hour and reply limits.

Conversation starters let the companion occasionally begin a private conversation during the day. They are separate from the scheduled daily note and stay paused until you opt in.

Turn starters on and choose an interval

Open Settings in your private chat and select Conversation starters. Review the explanation, then choose Turn on conversation starters. Daily messages must also be enabled. Choose the interval offered in the settings card: 2, 4, or 24 hours. The interval is a minimum spacing preference, not a promise that a message will arrive exactly on that schedule.

Starters observe the saved time zone and quiet hours. They can wait when you have recently chatted, when another check-in or reminder is due, when the companion lacks access, or when a daily limit or service pause applies. There is no catch-up burst after a skipped or missed send.

Reply, pause, or resume

Reply when you want to talk, or ignore a starter if now is not a good time. After three unanswered starters, the feature pauses itself. You can resume it from Settings. To pause sooner, choose Pause conversation starters. You can also change the interval there without changing the separate daily-message schedule.

If you want to stop all outreach, identify which type of message is arriving before changing its control. The companion overview explains the separate settings and privacy controls.

Keep the controls distinct

Conversation starters do not infer that you have woken up, and they do not replace an opted-in daily note. Turning daily notes off also prevents starters from being sent, but your starter preference remains available to review. Pausing starters alone leaves daily notes unchanged. For the morning note's content and timing, see daily messages and daily time and format.
