Understand and control feature tips

Learn why the companion may suggest a feature, what it records, when a tutorial tip can arrive, and how to pause or dismiss tips.

Feature tips are occasional messages that introduce a companion feature and link to its walkthrough. They use a separate opt-in from daily messages and conversation starters. A tip is an invitation to explore, not a claim that you do not know about the feature.

Review the separate opt-in

Open the private chat with @armoredkitten_bot, send `/settings`, and select Enable occasional feature tips. The bot displays a disclosure and another confirmation control; read the disclosure and choose the control to opt in. Tips require your separate permission and the daily-message channel to be enabled. Enabling tips does not enable any feature that a tip describes or create tasks, goals, habits, or story preferences for you.

If the service release switch is off, Settings says tips are not available yet. Your preference can be saved, but no tips will be sent while the feature is unavailable. Do not treat the Settings status as proof that a tip campaign is active.

What is recorded

After you opt in, the companion records interaction dates and the IDs of features you open or use. It does not use the text of your chats, task titles, goal titles, or wallet details to choose a tip. Interaction dates are kept for 90 days. Your opt-in, topic choices and delivery receipts remain until you use `/forget`; `/export` includes the feature-tip settings and history.

No recorded use is only a limited signal. It cannot tell whether you already know a feature, prefer another method, or do not want to use it. A tip should be useful on its own, and you can dismiss or pause it without explaining why.

When a tip may arrive

The picker currently considers the daily checklist, focus plans, recurring habits, story preferences, time-zone/story-country settings, the private dashboard, saved-memory corrections, weekly reflection, and conversation starters. It offers topics without a recorded use or an earlier tip. No use is only a limited signal: it cannot tell whether you know the feature or simply prefer not to use it. A tip is considered only after at least seven days of opt-in, activity on at least two separate days, recent account activity, valid local time-zone and access, and an enabled daily-message channel. It is sent during local daytime, no more than once in seven days, and only when other outreach and safety checks allow it. Two unanswered tips pause the channel automatically.

The weekly-reflection tip says recent chat and self-reported check-ins are processed by DeepSeek, then offers a button that explicitly requests /week. The conversation-starter tip opens Settings so you can read about the separate opt-in; it does not enable starters for you.

The scheduler does not infer a private reason for a feature being unused. The set and timing can change as the service changes; a tip may not arrive even when you opt in.

Choose what happens next

In a tip, choose the feature's try action to open its existing companion control, or use the tutorial link to read the matching walkthrough. Already know this stops future tips about that topic. Not interested suppresses that topic without labeling your understanding. Pause feature tips pauses the whole tip channel. Manage or resume the channel from Settings. These choices do not change daily-message permission or other feature settings.

If a control or link is missing, open Settings and check the tip status. The operator may not have enabled the campaign, your language may not be approved for release, or the companion may not currently meet its timing and access conditions. Ask `/tutorials` for available guides; a scheduled tip is never required to use a feature.
